Sometimes, you have to overcome first.
Sometimes, you just have to overcome the fear before you can adapt to the change.

Hi, I'm Katie. Welcome to Brew & Be Heard.

I'm really glad you stopped by for a moment. Let me tell you a little bit about who I am, and who you are talking to. I'm an Ohio girl, born and raised, and my life has never exactly followed a straight line. I grew up in a divorced military family, where day-to-day life could change in the blink of an eye.

“Adapt and overcome.”

That was almost a family motto. Whatever life threw at you, you made the best of it and kept going. You learned to adjust, figure things out, and keep moving forward. There was a lot of moving, shifting, and starting over—constantly finding my footing before the ground had even settled. And for a long time, I thought that was simply how life worked. I carried that grit into my early adult years, moving quickly into the roles of a young wife and mother. I believed that if I stayed strong enough, worked hard enough, and kept moving forward, I could handle whatever came next. I didn't know yet that some things in life can't simply be pushed through.

Then life kept happening.

As life went on, I found myself walking through divorce and the daunting task of finding myself again. The life I thought I was building suddenly looked very different, and I had to learn how to navigate a new version of life I hadn't planned for. There were seasons of unemployment. There were times when I faced homelessness. There were moments when I simply didn't know what came next. And then motherhood gave me another perspective. Raising a child with special needs changed the way I understood those words I'd grown up with.

I began to realize that sometimes adapting isn't the first step. Sometimes, you have to overcome the fear, the uncertainty, or the thing standing in front of you before you can even begin to figure out how to move forward. Sometimes, you have to overcome first. That changed the way I looked at life, challenges, and the people around me. And it changed the way I understood what people sometimes need when life feels like too much.

And that's where Brew & Be Heard began.

My story isn't filled with roses and sunshine. It has had some beautiful moments, some incredibly difficult ones, and plenty of moments where I didn't know what came next. But through all of it, I've learned something I believe deeply: Sometimes you don't need someone to fix it. Sometimes you just need somewhere to say it out loud.

A place to slow down. A place to gather your thoughts. A place where someone will actually listen. That's what I want Brew & Be Heard to be. Not therapy. Not advice. Not someone telling you what you should do. Just a real person, a little conversation, and a safe place to brew your thoughts freely. Nothing more. Nothing less. ☕

So grab your coffee, pull up a seat, and come as you are.
You don't have to have it figured out before you sit down. ☕
